With just three days to go until the third and final phase of voting in Assam, authorities have nabbed a female cadre of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland- Saoraigra (NDFB-S) militant group in Chirang district of Assam. A joint operation based on specific intel led to the arrest of the militant.
As per sources, the militant started running from a checking team of female police but was caught by the authorities along with arms and ammunition.
The apprehended militant has been identified as Sagarika Basumatary AKA B Sujuma. She was trained in Myanmar’s 42nd batch of the NDFB (S). A foreign-made pistol and three live rounds of ammunition were recovered from her.
Police said that the female militant had been sent to carry out acts of terrorism ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, but was foiled by the authorities before she could do so.
Chirang district falls under the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha Constituency which will head to the polls on 23 April during the third phase of polling. Counting will take place on 23 May.
