The claims and objections phase for inclusion of names in National Register of Citizens (NRC) and name corrections, if any, began on Friday with 25,000 NRC seva kendras (NSKs) across Assam issuing forms in this regard.
Individuals whose names have not been included in the complete NRC draft published on July 30 can reapply, while those whose name had been misspelt can apply for correction through forms made available in the NSKs.
The complete NRC draft was published on July 30, wherein about 40 lakh people have been left out, leading to widespread tumult in the political spectrum across the country with opposition parties accusing the ruling BJP governments at the Centre and Assam of deliberately carrying out such a mischief.
NRC authorities have, however, assured that no genuine Indian citizens would be left out, while no name of foreigners would be included in the final NRC.
