Five persons apprehended for allegedly attacking Congress candidate Anil Borgohain

Guwahati, April 6, 2019:

Amid rising tensions due to escalating violence ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, five persons have been detained by Silapathar police for allegedly attacking Congress Lok Sabha election candidate Anil Borgohain on Friday.

Bogohain, while campaigning in Silapathar on Friday, was confronted by alleged supporters of the BJP and Ganashakti parties. Borgohain, who was on the campaign trail ahead of the ensuing elections in the state, had a minor injury scare in Dhemaji district after facing two attacks.

After an FIR was lodged by the Congress party to punish the culprits, authorities have nabbed Likhan Morang, Louis Pegu, and Raju Pegu for throwing stones at Borgohain’s vehicle. Meanwhile, Ganashakti leader Satyajit Sungkrang has been booked for allegedly attacking the Congress candidate at Silahuti.
