At least five villages in Sonapur falling under the Nartap Gaon Panchayat have taken a resolution to boycott the upcoming panchayat elections if the government doesn’t take steps to improve the road conditions and provide them with basic amenities.
The villages are Garagaon, Lafar, Panikhanti and Marlap. These village are located near the Assam-Meghalaya border.
The locals of the villages claimed that even though India got independence 70 years ago, the roads condition now in there villages are in a horrible condition and they still lack basic amenities.
Even though politicians assure them that their demands will be met every time during elections, once a certain person is voted to power, their demands remain unattended and so this time they will not hear a single thing.
Students are being forced to walk since no public transport is available.
They even wrote to the concerned legislator in August 2016 as well as September 2017 about the poor roads but they were not given any “importance”.
The villagers claimed that they will be forced to chase away any public representative that comes for campaigning for the elections.
