Guwahati, November 1, 2018:

Wild elephants have been wreaking havoc in Assam. Cases of man-elephant conflict have been reported from several districts of the state.

A herd of wild elephants reportedly damaged several houses in Kumsang village in  Doomdooma. Locals are spending sleepless nights after the herd of elephants often stray into their villages from the nearby jungles. The villagers have alleged that the Forest Department are not taking any measures to stop the elephants from straying into their villages.

Wild elephants have been also leasing a reign of terror in Nagaon, Sonitpur and Golaghat districts of Assam. Elephants have reportedly destroyed several acre of cropland in Samaguri. Here too, villagers have alleged that the Forest Department are in deep slumber even though they have lodged several complaints.

It may be mentioned that wild elephants have killed more than 700 people in Assam between 2006 and 2016.
