In a huge setback to the BJP and a major boost to the Congress party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, a senior leader of Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and former minister, Babul Das has joined the Congress party at Nellie in Morigaon on Tuesday.
The leader defected to Congress party in the presence of Congress leader and Nowgong Constituency candidate Pradyut Bordoloi.

The former AGP Minister had earlier quit the regional party on Monday in protest against its alliance with the BJP for the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.
A former MLA from Jagiroad assembly constituency, Das was a cabinet minister in former Chief Minister Prafulla Mahanta's ministry from 1996 to 2000.
It may be mentioned that more than 500 BJP workers joined the Congress today at a ceremony.
Nowgong Constituency will head to the polls during the second phase of polling on 18 April.
