Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi is in a stable condition now and have been shifted to his cabin. Now it is unlikely that he would be needed to shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) anymore.

Briefing the media about the health condition of the veteran leader, Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) superintendant Abhijeet Sharma said that Gogoi is much better now. His oxygen saturation has been maintained at 96- 97 percent with three litres of oxygen on mask. He also took his food on time and went to sleep.

Sharma added, “We have already prepared the ICU for him but according to me he is stabilized now and I don’t think it will be necessary for us to shift him back to the ICU. The cardio reports are fine too but the sugar level has been fluctuating for a while now but it’s absolutely fine. We are ready to take up any challenge if his health deteriorates in any circumstances”.

It may be mentioned that there was a sudden fall in Gogoi’s oxygen saturation which came down to 88 percent on Monday night.  A team of doctors immediately gave him one unit of plasma.

A team of nine doctors including the head of GMCHs pulmonary medicine department head are presently monitoring Gogoi’s health.

It may be mentioned that the octogenarian congress leader had tested COVID-19 positive on August 25. Gogoi who was busy meeting congress and other political party leaders was reportedly unwell for a few days. He and his wife Dolly Gogoi underwent COVID test after former minister Ajanta Neog tested COVID-19 positive on Tuesday. Gogoi had reportedly met Ajanta Neog a day before. After the tests, Tarun Gogoi tested COVID positive. However, his wife Dolly Gogoi tested negative. Though Gogoi was at home isolation initially, he was later shifted to the GMCH for better treatment.
