GUWAHATI: Two-time former chief minister of Assam Prafulla Mahanta has once again been admitted to a hospital due to health issues, reports said.
According to reports, the ailing politician has been admitted to the Downtown hospital in Guwahati after he reportedly complained about 'breathing problems.'
A source close to Mahanta informed this publication that the leader has been admitted due to "weakness."
"Mahanta has reported feeling very weak. He was admitted and a COVID-19 test was done, but his result says he is negative. He seems to be doing fine and apparently, it is nothing serious," the source added.

Mahanta was earlier admitted to the same hospital in January of this year following 'chest pain.' He was later flown to New Delhi where he underwent a series of routine check-ups.
He was the MLA from Baharampur assembly constituency which he represented for five consecutive terms since 1991. This year, however, he was not given a ticket by the party to contest the polls.
Mahanta led the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) to power twice in 1985 and 1996.
He was the president of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) that spearheaded the six-year-long Assam movement against illegal foreigners in the state which led to the signing of the historic Assam Accord of which he was a signatory.
He along with the then AASU leaders went on to form the AGP which came to power in 1985 and the then 33-year old Mahanta became the country’s youngest chief minister of a state.
