Former Chirang DC arrested for graft

Guwahati (Assam), Aug 24, 2018:

Sleuths of Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) of Assam Police arrested former Chirang Deputy Commissioner (DC) Binod Kumar Deka on Friday in connection with a bribery case.

According to reports, one Champa Basumotary of Borbori filed an FIR against the DC at Dispur Police Station on 22nd September 2017 accusing Deka of taking a bribe of Rs 30,000 from her for sanctioning a bill. The lady also provided video footage of the incident as evidence.

Following the FIR, a case (no. 25/2017 under Section 7/13(1)(d)(ii)/13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act) was registered and investigation carried out by ACB.

Sources claimed that from the material evidence and expert reports, the charges levelled against Deka were prima facie found to be true and hence arrested.

The former Chirang DC is now under ACB custody and will be produced before a court here on Saturday.
