Son of a former Judge of Gauhati High Court whose car had allegedly hit a pedestrian on the night of 14th August in Maligaon area of the city surrendered before the police here on Sunday night.

Sources said accused Abinash Sharma surrendered at the Jalukbari Police Station following public uproar over the incident in which his Wagon R had hit one Ganesh Rao, an employee of the Indian Railways, leading to his death.

The police had issued summon to Abinash directing him to surrender by Monday.

Interestingly, Sharma’s family had filed a police complaint on 15th August that their vehicle was stolen their previous day.

The entire incident had sparked off a major public uproar with many staging a stir in front of the Jalukbari Police State demanding Abinash’s arrest.
