Guwahati, 16 January 2019:

The Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in a major dilemma as four of their prominent MLAs have come out in open and spoke against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 within a span of 4 days.

While Dispur MLA has always been persistently vocal about his stand against the Bill, the recent disagreement of other three MLAs have pushed the party into frenzy as possible rift in on the verge of getting out of control.

It started with Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika first speaking against the Bill in public as recently as January 14 followed by Lahowal MLA Rituparna Baruah opposing the controversial Bill on the same day.

On Wednesday, the BJP were handed another setback as Bihpuria (Lakhimpur) MLA Debananda Hazarika spoke about his disagreement and disapproval of the Bill in public and the threats it possesses for the Asomiya people.

Dispur MLA Atul Bora joined the likes Hazarika reiterate his disagreement over the Bill, once again on Wednesday.

However, the Assam BJP leadership has asked the Lahowal MLA Rituparna Baruah to explain his position after he spoke out against the Citizenship Bill on Wednesday and is expected to do the same with the other three legislators.

At a time when Assam is burning over the issue, this comes as immense support for the people in their fight against the Bill. The question now that remains is will these MLAs resign from their post if BJP continue to push the Bill on the people of Assam? Or will power blind them and regionalism will only witness mockery?
