DHUBRI: As many as 12 numbers of cattle were seized arresting four accused persons at the Chagolia along the Assam-West Bengal border which falls under Golakganj police station district Dhubri.
Sub-Inspector Prashanta Das of the Chagolia police station, acting on a tip, conducted a special operation on the highway at late Sunday night and was able to seize the cattle hidden inside a pickup van covered in potato sacks.
The driver and the handyman of the pickup van bearing vehicle the registration number (WB71-A-8237) were arrested by the police.
The van was coming from West Bengal, said police.
During the interrogation, both of the accused resented that one Maruti Alto vehicle escorting them ahead, evading all possibilities of being apprehended.

Chagolia police immediately rushed to catch the escorting vehicle, and after a mile they were able to seize the vehicle bearing registration number (WB64-L-6963), apprehending two more accused persons.
In a similar incident that occurred in Golakganj, a patrolling party from Golakganj police station was able to seize six cattle hidden inside a vehicle (chota hati) that was covered with baskets of fish in the early hours of the night.
The driver of the vehicle was able to flee the scene taking advantage of night darkness, which alerted police personnel.
A case has been registered against the accused persons and further inquiry is underway, informed Roji Rani Sarma, Additional SP, Dhubri.
