DISPUR: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Atul Bora today said that while he, as a member of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) had held discussions with many national leaders, the Assam Accord could not be implemented. Bora also said that the future of Assam hinges on the implementation of Clause 6 of the 'Accord', which is meant to give the Assamese people certain safeguards, which would not be available to migrants between 1951 and 1971.
During his address at the 1st anniversary celebrations of the Asam Chhatra Parishad, Bora said that the "The future of Assam will depend on the implementation of the Clause 6 of Assam Accord", recommendations for which are being sent to the Centre by the Assam Government
Bora said that although the concept of "regionalism" flows through the veins of the AGP, it also has understanding with national parties as it has national concerns. "For instance, if we are to evict foreigners from Bangladesh, we have to have an understanding with the Bangladeshi Government," he said.
Recalling the history of the AGP, Bora said that the party was formed at the end of the six years long agitation against foreigners. Bora said that the AGP Government in the past was not able to deliver its promise -- which is the ouster of "illegal immigrants" because of the Congress Government at the Centre.

"During our reign, we were unable to specify that we would be a failure if we did not have the backing of the Centre," Bora said, adding that the AGP members have learned from their experiences in the past.
At the same time, Bora took potshots at Congress, Bora said, "The party that brought about's India's independence was unable to filfill the dreams and aspirations of Assam. While the other states forged ahead, Assam stayed behind," he said, adding that the Congress, to solidify its vote bank, opened the borders to neighbouring Bangladesh. Bora also directly blamed the Congress for the deaths of the 855 agitators who were martyred during the agitation.
