GUWAHATI: Kokrajhar Member of Parliament Naba Kumar Sarania has claimed that the future of the non-Bodos residing in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) depends on the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) winning the polls.
Taking a jibe at the political opposition, Sarania stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bodoland People's Front (BPF), and the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) are indirectly allied and voting for one is the same as voting for the other.
Sarania made these allegations at an event in Goybari Constituency which saw several UPPL workers jump camp to Sarania's Gana Suraksha Party (GSP).

"People have realized that voting for the tractor (the UPPL's symbol) is the same as voting for the BJP. Similarly, voting for the BPF also counts as a vote for the BJP," the MP alleged.
"Several former UPPL have joined the GSP. And in other places as well, many workers of other political parties have also joined. I believe that the GSP will win all 4 Seats in Tamulpur," Sarania said. "If we lose this time, non-Bodos will face a huge loss in terms of land rights, political rights, et al."

In a releated development, a large contingent of UPPL workers from the Nagrijuli Constituency have left the party to extend support to independent candidate Rabindra Biswas. "After quitting the UPPL, we are choosing to support Rabindra Bala as he has all the qualities of a leader. He has worked as an MCLA for 10 years and worked for the upliftment of society. If he wins again, the residents of Nagrijuli will be greatly benefitted. He has also worked for the NRC -- something that Sushil Das has not done," a party worker alleged.
The elections in the BTC will be held in two phases -- on December 7 and 10. Counting of votes will be held in December 12.
