The video created a social media outrage among the people of Assam. Several netizens started slamming the inability of the learning platform to serve correct information.

In simple terms, the Gamosa or Gamusa is a rectangular piece of cloth a red border on three sides and red woven motifs on the fourth which holds special value for the people of Assam.

Gamosa has now travelled beyond the state and is often seen to be used by a number of public figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sunil Pawan Baruah, a retired history professor and writer based in Guwahati, addressed gamosa as a, “symbol of the Assamese nation” and said that its use can be traced back to 1916 and 1917, when the Asom Chatra Sanmillan (first student organisation) and Asom Sahitya Sabha (premier literary organisation) were founded.

He further added “Both were Assam’s first non-political organisations, and it was from them that the initial strains of Assamese jatiyotabaad (nationalism) grew, and so did the use of the gamosa.”

No public function in the state can commences without the guest first being felicitated with a Gamosa. More than a piece of cloth, Gamusa is rather a emotion for the people of Assam.

Moreover, Assam government has decided that only hand woven ‘Gamosa’ of state’s weavers will be used in the government programmes and only traditional food items will be served.

Followed by he controversy, the Gradeup Team took to twitter to apologize for spreading misinformation, “We sincerely apologise for this. In an old Youtube video, a faculty made a factual error while addressing the class. The faculty is no longer working with us. We ensure that Gradeup as an organisation works to provide the best exam preparation for each student to excel.”
