Guwahati, October 6,, 2018:
The Gauhati University Hospital has been shut down following the death of a B.Tech student on Friday night.
The deceased, identified as Himangshu Neog, was a 3rd semester student in the department of electronics and communication and a boarder of RCC 2 Boys Hall.
Speaking to InsideNe, Subrat Dutta, a boarder of the same hostel said, “Himangshu suffered from high blood pressure and last night, he became unconscious. We rushed him to the university hospital but due to lack of experienced doctors and equipment, he was referred to the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMC). The university hospital authorities sent him in an ambulance but it didn’t have proper equipment. The oxygen mask was broken and no nurse or trained person was sent along with the patient. He died before reaching the MMC. The post-mortem report is yet to be received.”
Meanwhile, the Gauhati University Students’ Union has given seven days’ time to the university authorities to improve the condition of the hospital. The students’ body warned that in the event of failure, it would be compelled to take some harsh measures.
