Gaurav Gogoi takes pledge to uphold Zubeen Garg’s vision of ‘Bor Asom’

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Friday announced that its president, Gaurav Gogoi, has formally taken a pledge to uphold the values and vision associated with Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg, vowing to carry forward his dream of a “Bor Asom”—a greater, inclusive and harmonious Assam.

In a video message shared by the party, Gogoi, who also serves as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, read out the pledge, reaffirming his commitment to peace, unity, environmental protection and the cultural integrity of the state.

Declaring himself the “watchman of Assamese nationality,” Gogoi said, “From today, I will be the watchman of Assamese nationality. Peace and harmony will be the foundation of my Bor Asom (Greater Assam). I will be humanitarian, and I will show equal respect to each caste, creed, and religion.
I will oppose the casteist and communal forces spreading fear, hatred, and division in society.
I will raise my voice without fear on any issue concerning the interests of Assam.
I will protect the trees, hills, rivers, and wildlife of Assam.
I will always extend my support to the deprived and underprivileged.
I will present Assamese nationality as an example of ‘unity in diversity’ before the world.

The APCC said the pledge reflects the Congress party’s commitment to safeguarding Assam’s cultural heritage, promoting social harmony, and advancing the inclusive ideals upheld by the late Zubeen Garg. The party emphasised that Gogoi’s message aims to inspire unity at a time when divisive forces threaten the social fabric of the state.
