A senior geologist from the Dibrugarh University has found trace of platinum deposits in the Karbi Anglong district.
Dilip Majumdar, Dean, School of Earth, Atmospheric Science, Environment and Energy at the university found the rare and expensive metal deposit and this is the first instance that such a rare metal was found in the Northeast region.
Assam has become the fourth state in the country where the rare metal has been found country after Odisha, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Majumdar speaking on the finding said that the samples were collected in January 2018 and after certain tests, positive results were found last week.
The professor has also found other minerals such as vanadium, iron and titanium on the site.
Currently, other tests are being carried out on site.
