Senior Congress leader Pawan Singh Ghatowar on Tuesday said the first round of selection of party candidates for panchayat polls had been completed.
“The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) during its ten-year governance had failed to hold panchayat elections. It was only during (three-time former Chief Minister) Tarun Gogoi’s rule that the elections were held for three times. The BJP, instead of conducting the polls, had diverted the money meant for panchayat polls to their MLAs. All the BJP MLAs are busy laying foundation stones of projects,” Ghatowar said.
He claimed that people had come to know the real character of the BJP. “The BJP has lost its ground in Lower Assam,” he claimed even as he expressed optimism about the victory of the Congress in the polls.
