KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi attacked one of his favourite targets, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, yet again. “While addressing a Shilpi Diwas event at Mangaldai, Sonowal has called it (the Bill) a national responsibility and said that it is compulsory to accept the Bill”, stated the peasant leader.
Gogoi has alleged that the BJP government is trying to bring in 1.9 crore Bangladeshi Hindus to Assam and slammed the Chief Minister for invoking the principle of Jawaharlal Nehru and Vallabhbhai Patel, who had requested first Assamese Chief Minister Gopinath Bordoloi to accept Hindu migrants from Bangladesh.
“Gopinath Bordoloi sent a letter to Nehru and clarified that Assam would not accept any more Hindus. Bordoloi had also said that Assam has 1,86,101 landless families in Assam for whom there is not enough land in Assam. Moreover, in 1949, 50,000 people had lost their homes. Bordoloi had said all these people would be given 10 bighas of land so Assam could not accept any more Hindu refugees”, stated Gogoi, talking about the refugee problem during independence time.
Gogoi also said that the centre’s demand of integrating Hindu refugees in Assam was met with resistance by Gopinath Bordoloi unlike the current ‘Jatiya Nayak’ Sarbananda Sonowal.
He compared Sonowal with Bordoloi and stated that whereas Bordoloi had love for his jati, Sonowal is a traitor to his jati and has surrendered the interests of the people, as he has folded to the BJP high command to accept Bangladeshi Hindu migrants into the state.
The peasant leader further stated that it is reason enough to revoke Sonowal’s title of ‘Jatiya Nayak’ and shame him for his act of surrender.
