GUWAHATI: The Gorkhas of the nation on Monday extended support to the indigenous Karbis for the implementation of Article 244 (A) means  autonomous state in Karbianglong and NC Hills in the state of Assam. It further extended solidarity for recognition of Karbi language in the 8th schedule of Indian Constitution.

The President of the youth wing of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh,  Nanda Kirati Dewan said, "The delegate session of the 1st Triennial  General Conference of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, Karbi Anglong Region Committee that concluded on 15th and 16th January 2021 at Mugasong, Tumpreng, West Karbianglong unanimously resolved to extend support to long pending demand of people of Karbianglong and NC Hills that is implementation of 244 (A) and extended solidarity for recognition of Karbi language in the 8th schedule of Indian Constitution".

On Saturday at Mugasong in West Karbianglong at the Open Session of the conference in presence of Karbianglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Chief Executive Member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang, Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP)'s National Working President Dr. Munish Tamang said, 'Gorkhas  reteirated its support to long pending constitutional demand of implementation of Article 244 (A) comprising the areas of KAAC & NCHAC and appeal Government of India  to take immediate action in this regard and also extend its support for inclusion of Karbi language in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution.

"The Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh is committed to work and garner support at all appropriate levels for both demands of Karbianglong.", Dr Tamang reiterated.

Yam Prasad Ghimire, president of the Karbianglong Region Commitee of the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh said, " Govt. of India should speedily implement, in letter and spirit, clauses of the Tripartite  MoS signed by UPDS, Govt. of Assam & Central Govt." 

Ghimire further added that the Karbianglong Autonomous Territorial Council (KAATC) and authorities concerned should  provide safeguard to the Gorkhas living in Karbi Anglong with respect to constitutional, administrative, land Rights, and Socio-Political Rights while implementing the MoS.

Addressing the Open Session as the Chief Guest and responding to the solidarity and the demands laid by BGP Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Aglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang said 'BGP is part of Team Karbianglong initiated by KAAC and we begin with construction of Gorkha Bhawan in Diphu and West Karbianglong and official holiday on Balidan Divas (Death Anniversary of Amar Shaheed Durga Malla 25th Aug ).'

The present council is committed to welfare, development and protection of Gorkhas with constitutional rights and acknowledged solidarity and support from the BGP for the demands of Karbi people and Karbianglong and thanked the community.

The two day conference was graced by Sukhman Moktan, National President, BGP and Joint Secretary General Abhay Khaling and MP Diphu Horen Singh Bey as Guest of Honour, Lakshmi Subedi, president, Bharatiya Gorkha Mahila Parisangh, Assam Unit and Nominated MCLA of KAAC Chandra Bahadur Chhetri as Distinguished Guest. Members and intellectuals of Karbianglong and West Karbianglong and all the regional unit were present in the conference that began with flag hoisting, lighting lamp on martyrs tomb and garlanding the statue of Durga Malla followed by Literary program and Delegate Session on Day 1.

Day 2 was dedicated for morning seminar and afternoon Open Session and Cultural program at night.
