The governor of Assam has approved the renaming of Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) to Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), said Assam health, finance and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.
Addressing a press conference at Janata Bhawan Sarma said that it was part of the Bodo Peace Accord.
Sarma said that a commission will look after the inclusion and exclusion of villages in the BTR.

Sarma added, “The commission will be headed by former Assam chief secretary P P Verma. There will be three other members BTC administrator Rajesh Prasad, Jayanta Basumatary All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) representative, Dalim Bayan as the representative of other communities.”
Later the commission will also look after the move to increase the number of seats in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) to 60.
