GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet, headed by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, has given its nod to appointment of Junior World Championship and Asian Games medal-winning sprinter Hima Das as a deputy superintendent of police in Assam Police.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by CM Sonowal on Wednesday night.
While it was decided to appoint Hima Das as a DSP rank officer in the Assam police, the medal winners in Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games were appointed as Class- I state government officers.

Lauding the move, Minister of State for Youth Affairs & Sports Kiren Rijiju wrote on Twitter, “Well done! Assam Cabinet, headed by CM @sarbanandsonwal Ji has decided to offer the post of DSP in Assam Police to sprinter queen @HimaDas8 .”
Hima Das who is commonly known as 'Dhing Express' is a 20-year-old Indian sprinter from Assam born in January 9, 2000.
She holds the current Indian national record in 400 metres with a timing of 50.79 seconds that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. She is the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in the track event at IAAF World U20 Championships.
