GUWAHATI: The government, the BJP and the RSS are scared of Akhil Gogoi. He is the only one who can expose and devastate the ruling BJP in Assam. And that’s why he is denied justice even by the court of law.

This was what the newly floated Raijor Dal had to say a day after the Supreme Court rejected its incarcerated president Gogoi’s bail plea.

Expressing loss of faith in the court of law, Raijor Dal working president Bhasco de Saikia said: “We were not surprised by the court’s ruling because we’ve seen how people in proximity with the BJP government are granted bail quite quickly and others are left to decay in jails ... Akhil Gogoi is fighting another case in Gauhati High Court and we don’t expect any favourable ruling from the court. We’ve lost all faith in the court of law.”

“The Sarbananda Sonowal government, the RSS and the BJP know that if he comes out of jail before the assembly elections, the BJP cannot win the state elections. Therefore, no court will grant him bail before the elections. He will not come out of jail before elections.

“Therefore, we have resolved to wage a war against the BJP government with the help of the people of Assam who had protested against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 and Akhil Gogoi’s uncompromising ideology in the elections ahead to dislodge the anti-Assam BJP. I appeal to all people that if your anti-CAA protests were genuine, please come forward to join our revolution,” Saikia said.

Pointing out that the government was imposing the CAA, toll gates and resuming work on the Lower Subansiri hydro electric power project by keeping Gogoi behind bars, Saikia said: “We opposed toll gates in the state fearing what they are doing now. The toll gates are looting instead of collecting toll. Similarly, the CAA was imposed and the big dam work is being resumed.”

Saikia also alleged that the ruling party has offered to release Gogoi in exchange of helping the BJP retain power in the state, abandon the big dam and CAA protests and others. “However, he is not ready to compromise on the people’s interests. He is not someone whom the BJP can buy,” he said.

Alleging that conspiracies were going on against Gogoi, he said, “We are aware, but can’t disclose it because the authorities might try again to kill him inside the jail like they tried it once when he was in NIA custody.”

Announcing indirectly Gogoi as the candidate for Sivasagar constituency, party working president Kabindra Chetia Phukan said: “Wherever we have gone, we were told that the leadership to save the Assamese society should be taken from Sivasagar. So, we are giving our most uncompromising leader to the people of Sivasagar as their representative and we are hopeful, the people will elect him with a massive margin.”
