The Chiriyakhana Suraksha Manch staged a protest in front of Assam State Zoo, widely known as Guwahati Zoo, on Sunday demanding the resignation of divisional forest officer (DFO) Tejas Mariswamy.
The organisation alleged that the reported deaths of eight jackals due to canine distemper disease were a “fake story”. It insisted the deaths be investigated thoroughly.
The organisation said the DFO must resign also because of the fact that some employees of the zoo were allegedly involved in the killings of the animal and devouring its meat.
