The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) said it would not call off the 24-hour Karbi Anglong bandh, which started on Tuesday morning, despite the general secretary of Asomiya Yuva Manch (AYM) Jitul Deka filing a PIL in the Gauhati High Court against it.
The bandh was jointly called by ASDC, Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) and Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA). Earlier, Deka had filed the PIL after the bandh was called.
ASDC president, Holiram Terang, asked, “If Jitul Deka is concerned over bandh culture, why was he silent over bandhs called by organisations outside Karbi Anglong? If he is so concerned about the people of Karbi Anglong then why doesn’t he fight against discrimination meted out to the hills districts by the government?”
