Former Gauhati University student leader-cum-research scholar Sanjiv Talukdar, who was nabbed from Baihata Chariali in connection with the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) orchestrated blast in Guwahati, was presented at Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup, on Tuesday.
The accused has been sent to six days in police remand. Meanwhile, two other accuses -- Amrit Ballav Goswami and Indramohan Bora -- have been sent to six days in judicial remand. Another accused, Chinmoy Lahkar, has been sent for a further four days is police remand. Meanwhile, Chinmoy Lahkar's advocate has alleged that Lahkar is being subjected to mental abuse by the authorities.
Talukdar, who was a former President of the Post Graduate Students' Union body of the Gauhati University, was nabbed from Baihata Chariali on the outskirts of Gauhati metro based on intel provided by Bijoy Asom, who is accused of throwing a grenade at the crowded area which wounded at least twelve persons, including two SSB jawans.
Police have said that on the directives of ULFA (I) Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah, the former student leader took the hardcore militants Bijoy Asom and Papu Koch on a tour of Guwahati city prior to the blast. Moreover, police have said that he was in constant touch with the ULFA Chief Baruah in the lead-up to the blasts.
It may be mentioned that Talukdar was the Post Graduate Students’ Union president of Gauhati University from 2016 to 2017.
As per police reports, the blast, which took place in the crowded Zoo Road locality of Guwahati city, was hurled by hardcore ULFA cadre Bijoy Axom while riding pillion on a scooty driven by Assamese actress Jahnabi Saikia.
