Along with rest of the state, Guwahati is gearing up to celebrate the 72nd Independence Day.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Kamrup (Metro) district Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal said the I-Day would be celebrated for three days this year. He said school students from primary to higher secondary levels would take part in the celebration.

The highlights of the celebration would include a quiz competition on national movements, a singing competition on patriotism and poster-making on Swachh Bharat.

Police Commissioner Hiren Chandra Nath said no tobacco or other metallic items would be allowed to be carried inside Khanapara Field on August 15. He appealed to people to maintain order and celebrate the day peacefully.
