Setting an example of communal harmony amid growing religious rifts, the Khalsa Centre North East and Gurudwara Guru Nanak Durbar hosted an Iftar party at Morakhali in Assam's Guwahati city on Sunday.
It is for the first time in the Northeast iftar party was hosted at Gurudwara, thereby strengthening the universal brotherhood between the communities.
A Muslim man who was invited to the Iftar, said that this is one of the greatest instances of communal harmony in the state of Assam and profusely thanked his Sikh brethren for welcoming the Muslims with open arms and sharing the great occasion with them.
A Sikh man said that Gurunanak Dev, the great founder of the Sikhs, has said that all religions have originated from the same source and thus, there are no prohibitions to anyone entering any Gurudwara -- including the great grand Lotus Temple in Amritsar, which truly is a sight to behold!
During the month of Ramzan, Muslims observe fasting for from dawn to dusk. They even do not consume food or water.
They eat Sehri (a pre-dawn meal) and break the day-long fast with Iftar in the evening. Eid ul-Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of Ramzan. The festival is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
