In order to clean the garbage and drainage systems in the city, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has launched Flying Squad and started a 'Mass Awareness' programme.
Guwahati Development Department Minister, Siddhartha Bhattacharyya and GMC Commissioner Debeswar Malakar flagged off the mission on Tuesday at a playground in Supermarket area of the city.
A total of six flying squads consisting of six members each have been formed. 12 flying squad vehicles have been allotted to the team as of now.

The squads will visit designated areas and collect the garbage.
Each designated area has been divided into six engineering divisions that will be divided into six parts, and the squad will visit one part in a day from Monday to Saturday.
Each team will be led by an executive engineer. On Sundays, the squad will try to resolve the backlogged problems.
Awareness campaigns will be organized in four wards each day, starting with Ward No 26 from July 13 onwards.
