GUWAHATI: Personnel of the Guwahati Police raided a rave party that saw the consumption of copious amounts of drugs and alcohol in Kharguli near Don Bosco Institute on Friday night and arrested 17 people, an official said. However, many participants managed to escape the raid.
As per reports, the rave party was organized on the third floor of Kharguli Riviera Apartments in the residence of businessman Vikash Jain. The rave party was reportedly organized to celebrate the birthday of one Amit Baruah and had drugs and alcohol. A case has been registered at the Latasil Police Station.
According to investigating officials, the participants of the rave party were from affluent families.
Earlier, Assam chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma intimated via his official Twitter handle that the Guwahati Police was raiding a drugs party at Kharguli. The tweet mentioned that different types of weed (ganja) and some cocaine were recovered from the scene.

Briefing media persons in Guwahati today, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma warned that people should stop using drugs adding that those involved in the narcotics trade should not operate in Assam as it would result in "strict punishment."
The Assam chief minister also informed that banned drugs are being seized every day and recently a consignment of around 2 kgs of heroin was seized in Karbi Anglong that is worth Rs 3 crore in the international market.
The state police ramped up its war on drugs after PM Modi's BJP collegue Himanta Biswa Sarma became chief minister of Assam in May and said he had given police a free hand to act on drugs, including to shoot suspects when needed.
"The Assam government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs," Sarma said in a speech at a public burning of seized drugs in July. "I have asked the police to take the most extreme step allowed by law against drug peddlers and the kingpins when needed."
