Guwahati Professor detained and released after controversial statement on Pulwama Attack

Guwahati, February 17, 2019:

An Assistant Professor of English from Guwahati’s Icon Commerce College, Papri Z Banerjee, was arrested by Chandmari police on Sunday after posting controversial comments on social media platform, Facebook. However, she has since been released. The Professor had earlier been suspended from her college for making the controversial statements.

The Professor made the comments after the terror attack in Kashmir’s Pulwara district during which 42 CRPF jawans were martyred after a Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber launched an explosive-laden SUV into a military convoy vehicle.

While mourning the death of the jawans who were martyred during the attack, she also posted that the security forces of the country have committed numerous atrocities in the Kashmir valley and suggested that the death of the jawans is a result of their actions in the valley. “KARMA is a very indic, very Sanatana Dharma concept”, she added.

Many people instantly pounced upon her after she made this statement and she received much abuse from denizens of the Internet. However, many people also came to her defense.
