GUWAHATI: In a tragic incident, two youths from Assam's Guwahati city were brutally thrashed over an argument over 'chicken pakoras.' The duo was soundly thrashed by a mob of 20-25 men -- almost to the brink of death -- in Adabari area of the city. According to reports, the duo was thrashed near an eatery after complaining about the quantity of chicken in their chicken pakodas.

Rahul Hazarika, one of the victims, said that he had gone to have chicken pakoras with a friend after an outing on Sunday. Posting a video on Facebook, he said, "When we were served, I noticed that the chicken in the pakora was less. When I brought this to notice, the shopkeeper said that the pakodas had adequate chicken. I asked him to behave in a proper manner, to which he responded with unbridled aggression. The owner of the shop then arrived on the scene and pushed me away. My friend then asked him why he was behaving in such a crude manner. He was then attacked with a meat chopping dao. The blow was directed at his neck, but he swerved aside and his life was saved. However, he received a deep cut on his nose."

Hazarika's video, which he shared on his Facebook profile, is quickly going viral in Assam and has been shared over 200 times. Citizens have condemned the callous acts in the comments section, and calls for justice have already been raised. Hazarika has informed that an FIR has also been registered and justice is being awaited.

According to Hazarika, the duo was then brutally assaulted by a gang of around 20-25 men. Both youths have numerous injuries all over their bodies -- indicative of the brutality of the mob's assault.

Hazarika has claimed that this incident exposes the complete breakdown in the law and order scenario in the State of Assam. "Thankfully, there were some good people there who came to our rescue. Some good samaritans told us that if we did not escape from the spot, we would both be killed. I was finally able to load my bike onto a tempo and bring it home. Otherwise they would have burnt it as well."

Das, who can barely speak due to the grievous nature of his injuries, said that he saw "black" after the assailants were done with him. "Thankfully, the police arrived on the spot and saved us in the nick of time." His family members have said that he received 9 stitches on his nose which has been injured very badly.

The duo's family members are now demanding justice for the "Our boy was beaten brutally over an argument regarding chicken pakoras. Therefore, we request out Chief Minister to look into the incident and ensure the quick delivery of justice," said a family member of the attacked youths.
