The staff of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) office in Haflong on Wednesday staged a massive protest against the nonpayment of salaries. The staffs have alleged that they have not been paid for the last 6 Months.

The employees have also alleged that the Executive Engineer in-charge of the Haflong Division, Pinaki Kar, has ill-treated the employees, when they approached him for their salaries. The workers have demanded that Kar be relieved from his post. They also warned that if Pinaki Kar is not released by November 30. they will go for an indefinite strike from December 11, onwards.
The protest started from 11 Am at the PHE Engineer's office at the Sarkari Bagan, in Haflong, and the protesters could be heard yelling slogans against the Executive Engineer, and the administration for not paying their salaries.

One of the protestors said, "Have not received salary for over 6 months -- am unable to pay the school fees of of our children."
He further lamented that he was abused by the Executive Engineer-in-charge, Kar. "He did not treat us like people. Even humble folks are people. We will launch a protest starting from December 11 onwards, if he is not removed", he added.
