Two of Haflong Students’ Unions have demanded immediate suspension of a Pharmacist for his involvement in a medicine scam.
The Dimasa Students’ Union (DSU) and Hills Tribe Students’ Association (HTSA) visited the Haflong Civil Hospital and discovered that the health centre was falling short of medicines. Patients have also been facing difficulty due to lack of access to the required medicines.
DSU President Pramith Sengyung said that a Pharmacist was involved in a major medicine scam which had resulted in shortage of medicine supply to the hospital.

The Pharmacist, identified as Nirupam Dutta, was allegedly accused in the scam worth a whopping amount of Rs. 3,43,12,401. According to Sengyung, Dutta had also taken bribe for a job appointment in 2015 in Dima Hasao’s Medical Department.
It is to be mentioned here that The Haflong Civil Hospital was running short of even common medicine such as Paracetamol and the issue was a serious one.
Hospital Superintendent and Joint Director of Health Services told that the District Drug Warehouse
(DDW) was unable to provide them medicines and essentials like gloves, syringe etc.
DSU President has demanded an immediate suspension of the pharmacist. The Students’ Association has also demanded a departmental inquiry on the Pharmacist.
