Hagrama Mohilary continues war of words with Himanta Biswa; here's what he said

KOKRAJHAR: Hagrama Mohilary, leader of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF), has shockingly prophesied that Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shall lose the forthcoming elections from the Jalukbari constituency, where he is a 4-time MLA.

Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 19 filed his nomination in the Deputy Commissioner's office in Panbazar amid massive fanfare. Several thousand -- including the chief ministers of Assam and Manipur -- were in attendance.

Mohilary, the former Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), attributed Biswa Sarma's success in politics to "favours" he had done for him in the past.

"Before he (Biswa Sarma) was selected as Minister, he gave his bio-data to me and became Minister. Had I not been there, he would not have ascended to such a position. Had Bhrigu Phukan been alive, he would have never won the election from the Jalukbari Constituency," said Hagrama, continuing his bitter war-of-words with the minister.

 

Mohilary, reiterating his earlier stance that Biswa Sarma is not fit to be chief minister of Assam, said, "I do not have any special desire to be chief minister. Earlier, I was talking about the chances of becoming chief minister. He is not eligible nor does he have the luck. It is a known fact that Biswa Sarma covets the chief minister's chair like no other. I had said that since I am a senior, I should be the chief minister before him."

 

Responding to Biswa Sarma's remarks that Hagrama has suffered a "puncture", Mohilary said that Sarma is the "spent force" and not him.

 

Biswa Sarma has reiterated time and again that Mohilary, who enjoyed 3 terms as the CEM, is a spent force in the Bodo-dominated region, and has thrown his weight behind the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) and its leader Promod Boro.

 

The BPF has also broken away from the BJP-led alliance to join the ‘Mahajath’.

 

The Congress led grand alliance or ‘Mahajath’ comprises the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI (M), the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) Liberation or CPI(ML), and the Anchalik Gana Marcha (AGM).
