Hagrama Mohilary has released all the security guards assigned to Him; Here's why

KOKRAJHAR: In a surprise move, Hagrama Mohilary, the former Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), removed the security guards assigned to him in the dead of the night on December 11. Mohilary, peeved at the district police's motive to reduce his security, yesterday released his House Guard, PSO, and Escort Battalion who had been entrusted with his safety.

According to reports, Hagrama evicted all the security personnel after the Additional SP of Kokrajhar had informed that his security staff would be reduced as he is no longer the Chief. Apparently, this did not sit well with Mohilary, who evicted all the security staffs and informed that their services would be no longer necessary.

"Mr. Mohilary had been informed that the number of security personnel assigned to him would be reduced to 11. When he found out, he was none too happy about it," an evicted guard told media persons.

Writing to the Inspector General Police of the BTC, Mohilary stated, "I would like to inform you through this letter that I am releasing all the security personnel assigned for me from today."

It needs mention here that Mohilary lost a closely contested election in the Council, which saw rival Promod Boro elected as the new Chief Executive Member of the BTC. However, the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) party led by Mohilary emerged as the single-largest party in the election, which saw a see-saw contest between the party and the BJP-BPF combine.

Hagrama Mohilary led Bodoland People's Front (BPF) has won 17 out of the total 40 Seats in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election, emerging as the single largest party.

The United People's Party Liberal (12 Seats) and BJP (9 Seats) are the other strong performers. The Congress-AIUDF and the Gana Suraksha Party won one Seat each.

The much-awaited voting for the BTC began on December 7 with over 77.01 per cent voters exercising their franchise in the first phase of polling for 21 seats in Udalguri and Baksa districts, where 130 candidates have contested.

A total of 23,87,422 voters in the two phases exercised their franchise to elect their representatives for the local council, formed in 2003 and elections being held since 2005.
