Hagrama Mohilary & Tuliram Ronghang should oppose Citizenship Bill: NEFIPHagrama Mohilary

Guwahati, December 5, 2019:

The North East Forum For Indigenous People (NEFIP), an indigenous organization, has slammed the tribal leaders of Assam, such as Hagrama Mohilary and Tuliram Ronghang, for staying mum on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill issue.

Bikram Hanse, who is the Vice President of the NEFIP has stated that exempting the Sixth Scheduled areas such as Karbi Anglong, NC Hills and BTC of Assam from the purview of CAB does not mean that the tribals are safe. "The Bill itself was specifically only for Northeasten region, which is proven by the fact that only the people from the Northeastern are protesting against the Bill.

Hanse has said that the both the versions of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and 2019, are detrimental to the aborigine peoples of the Northeast.

Hanse further adds: "Not opposing CAB and accepting revised version on the Citizenship Bill, 2019, was a very foolish decision taken by Tuliram Ronghang, Hagrama Mohilary, and the NC Hills Autonomous Council, CEM. In fact they should oppose the Bill, and if the Bill is tabled in the Cabinet today, the Sixth Schedule will be like Zoo Park in Assam."

It may be mentioned here that the Bill, which will tabulated in the Parliament within this week, has been met with widespread protests in the the Northeast region by student bodies and indigenous organizations.
