Hagrama Mohilary urges UPPL & GSP to join hands with him, says 'regional parties' must rule BTChagrama

KOKRAJHAR: Hagrama Mohilary, the former Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council formed in 2003 after a long-drawn-out insurgency, has appealed to fellow regional parties United People's Party Liberal Liberal (UPPL) and the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) to join him in forming the administration.

The Bodoland People's Front (BPF) supremo has even gone on to claim that he does not covet the post of CEM anymore, but regional parties must form the Government in the Council. "There is no demand from my side. My only wish is to see the BTC governed by regional parties," he said.

"I am firmly of the belief that regional powers should form the administration in the BTC. I am open to talking with the UPPL and the BPF. It doesn't matter who the CEM is," Mohilary told media persons in Kokrajhar moments earlier.

With this statement, Mohilary took a complete U-turn compared to his earlier stand, when he had appealed allies BJP to help him form the Executive Council in the BTC. However, Mohilary's appeals fell on deaf ears, and the BJP-UPPL-GSP combine appointed former student leader Promod Boro as the CEM in Kokrajhar at a ceremony that was attended by lakhs.

Now, the Gauhati High Court has ordered a Floor Test in the BTC before December 26, which will determine whether Promod Boro will retain his post, or someone else will take his place.

Disclosing why he asked the IGP of Kokrajhar district to withdraw his security guards last night, Hagrama Mohilary said, "I asked them to withdraw because I was being told that some of the guards would be withdrawn without my knowledge. Therefore, I said that I don't need any of them. Now, I am being told that I will receive Cabinet-level security. I don't know what that is, but I need my security detail to be restored to its previous state."

It is pertinent to mention here that the Hagrama Mohilary led Bodoland People's Front (BPF) has won 17 out of the total 40 Seats in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election, emerging as the single largest party.
