DHUBRI: A handmade pistol has been recovered in Assam's Dhubri district. Accused Bakkar Ali Mondal -- suspected of being involved in the local drugs trade -- has been arrested by police from Alokjhari in Dhubri.
A joint operation was launched by Paglahat police, and one section of the 'Quick Action Team' of 48 battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Gaurupir based on a tip-off.
Police officials initially suspected they would find drugs but they discovered the handmade pistol from Ali Mondal's possession in Molandubi under Tamarhat police station, police said.

According to police, Ali Mondal was ordered to stop by the police officer, but he attempted to flee the scene.
Police hunted him down and arrested him along with the homemade pistol. The police have yet to determine where the pistol was brought from and an investigation into the matter is underway.
According to a member of the 'Quick Action Team,' the pistol was used for extortion and was even involved in several criminal acts.
A case has been registered against the accused person and further investigation will be initiated, informed Paglahat Watch Post IC, Bipul Das.
