"Have no problem with being called Vibhishana": Biswajit Daimary answers his criticsVibhishana

TAMULPUR: Biswajit Daimary, a former Bodoland People's Front (BPF) Working President, today said that he does not mind being termed as the mythical character "Vibhishana" for switching to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the elections in the Council.

Daimary, answering his critics in the BPF party, who have condemned his move, said that Vibhishana, who betrayed his brother Ravana and joined Lord Ram's camp during the 'Ramayana', was a noble man who by bringing about his brother's downfall stopped many atrocities from being committed.

"I have joined the BJP today, because if we are to do new things for the people of the region the way people want, we have to work with a new attitude and thinking. To move ahead, we hav to implement the schemes introduced by the Prime Minister Nareandra Modi," Daimary said, adding that he will work to "uplift the people of the region."

Daimary, who resigned as a Rajya Sabha MP, today said that after joining the BJP, he has "forgotten" about the "bad days" that he saw with the BPF.
The leader said that he had to leave from the BPF because many of its leaders have "strayed from the path" and added that if the residents of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) support the BJP, they are likely to get more schemes and benefits from the Central and State Governments.

Alleging corruption in the region, the former MP also said that the region is in heavy debt and warned that the debt will only grow larger if the BPF is power once again. He said that from tomorrow onwards, he will take part in many rallies where he will be campaigning for the saffron party as it attempts to secure the BTC Council for the first time, wresting it away from 3-time rulers BPF. The polls will be held on December 7th and 10th and the counting will be held on the 12th of the same month.
