Guwahati (Assam), September 04, 2018:

The Assam government has announced a cash reward of Rs 1.60 crore for India’s new track and field sensation Hima Das. She had bagged one gold and two silver medals at the recently-held Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal made the announcement. The Sonowal government will offer the cash prize at grand felicitation programme at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati on September 7.

It may be mentioned that earlier Water Resources Minister and Asom Gana Parishad vice-president Keshab Mahanta had announced that a statue of Hima Das would be erected at the speedster’s native Dhing Kandhulimari village in Nagaon district.

Mahanta said the statue would be inaugurated by the athlete herself when she returns home. This will encourage her and other budding sportspersons of the state, he had said.
