GUWAHATI: As the world gears for the Tokyo Olympics, ace sprinter from Assam Hima Das expressed sorrow for missing the grand event due to an injury.

"I will miss my first Olympics due to untimely injury when I was close to achieve the qualification standard in my new event 100m and 200m", she said taking to Twitter on Tuesday.

She further added that she will make a strong comeback and is looking forward to Commonwealth Games 2022, Asian Games 2022 and World Championship 2022.

Popularly known as the 'Dhing Express', Das also thanked her coaches, support staff and her team mates for their support.

Das failed to qualify for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics as she had sustained a hamstring injury and was undergoing treatment for the same.

She couldn't reach the qualifying timing which was 22.80 seconds in the women 200mts at the 60th National State Athletics championship held at Patiala recently. Her timing was 25.03 seconds.

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju had spoken to Das and told the sprinter to not lose hope.

"Injuries are part & parcel of athlete's life", he said encouraging her to prepare for 2022 Asian Games, 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2024 Paris Olympics.

The international multi-sport event is scheduled to be held from 23 July to August 8 in Tokyo, Japan.
