GUWAHATI: CM elect Himanta Biswa Sarma will meet Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi, at the Raj Bhawan here, today at 4 pm, to stake claim to form the new government.
Sarma, after being elected the BJP legislature party leader, announced that the oath-taking ceremony will be held at 12 pm tomorrow.
Tomorrow's oath-taking ceremony is likely to be held at the Sri Madhabdeb International Auditorium here.
The announcement of the name of Assam's next chief minister took almost a week, after the BJP-led alliance made a landslide victory in the recently concluded state assembly elections, results of which were declared on May 2.
Earlier today, outgoing CM Sarbananda Sonowal proposed Sarma's name as the leader of the BJP legislature party, at the BJP legislature party meeting here.
Sonowal's proposal was seconded by the state BJP chief Ranjeet Kumar Dass and NCHAC EM Nandita Garlosa.
After the meeting, Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar, who is the central observer of the parliamentary, announced Sarma as the next chief minister of Assam.
BJP allies, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), too supported the decision.
