"Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sarbananda Sonowal competing to destroy Assam": Akhil Gogoi

Guwahati, January 21, 2019:

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi organized a press meet and organized the BJP government as well as Assam’s Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal as well as Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Gogoi also warned that the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 shall be passed during the upcoming Rajya Sabha session and announced statewide protests in collaboration with the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP).

“Till a few days CM Sonowal was mum and did not give his opinion on any issue. But recently, he has started giving his opinions and there is a competition between HBS and Sonowal who can cause more harm to Assam”, alleged the KMSS chief.

The peasant leader said: “We have also seen that BJP only care about their political seats. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sarbananda Sonowal are competing to destroy Assam. Himanta Biswa Sarma is speaking a lot of nonsense and has given support to the Citizenship Bill. Thus, Sonowal has also started speaking out in support of the Bill to curry favour with the RSS, like Himanta.”

Gogoi also attacked Assam’s ‘Jatiya Nayak’ Chief Minister and stated that the Chief Miniter is starting to speak on behalf of the BJP and RSS to ensure that the Himanta Biswa Sarma does not become the Delhi government’s favourite. Gogoi also alleged that the government assurance that it will implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord is a complete lie.

He also asked why Assam is not afforded the same protections as Nagaland and Kashmir and warned that Assam is headed for a Tripura-like situation where locals are being marginalized due to a high influx of Bangladeshi Hindus.
