GUWAHATI: Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has courted controversy after his alleged "insult" towards the newly-formed regional parties of Assam. Sarma yesterday compared the new political entities to the mobile theaters of Assam -- namely the 'Kohinoor' and 'Abahan' theatre.

"One day, they will form a party, then they will unveil a flag, they will then rent an office, then they will wear a Crown. I have never seen stuff like this politics. This does not happen in real-life. In real life, there are booth committees, there are panchayat committees. These are like scenes out of Kohinoor and Abahan Theatre," Sarma said, taking potshots at the BJP's new regional opposition, Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP).

Taking a jibe at Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, the AASU leader-turned-politician, for wearing a traditional 'crown' during the AJP Convention that was recently held in Sivasagar, Biswa Sarma stated, "It means that they have a dream of being Kings. At one point of time, the kids used to roam around the house with a stethoscope in hand. It is all fun and games. Today's politics is something similar."

Sarma also claims that with this act (of wearing the crown), the AJP party is already claiming victory in the elections. "They have claimed victory even before election has been conducted and a single vote has been case," he said.

Sarma also said that the springing up of so many parties in recent times has caused immense confusion in the minds of the people. "There are so many parties. If I condemn someone from the AJP, I will later find out it is someone from the Raijor Dal. If I condemn someome presumably from the Raijor Dal, it will turn out that he/she is from some other party. There are so many parties now that people are confused."
