Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again stoked the flames of controversy by insinuating that the Congress has lost "self-respect" after hinting at an alliance between the Congress and the Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF.
"Only the people who do not have self-respect will fight the election on an AIUDF ticket", said Biswa Sarma, talking to mediapersons earlier today.

Biswa Sarma also said that for many generations, the people who will be elected to the Rajya Sabha on an AIUDF ticket, will be mocked and reviled. He further equated it with
"No good people will participate in the election from the AIUDF party", Biswa Sarma said, and added that the kin of Congress party who will contest elections in alliance with thAIUDF will vote for the BJP instead.
Himanta Biswa Sarma made the comments have been made after Congress and the All India United Democratic Front may field a joint candidate for one of the three Rajya Sabha seats. Former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that the Congres will talk to the chief of the All India United Democratic Front on a consensus candidate.
Two vacancies were caused after Congress leaders Bhubaneswar Kalita and Sanjay Singh joined the BJP and quit their RS seats. BJP has hinted on fielding Kalita and Daimary has been re-nominated by the BPF, an alliance partner of the BJP.
