Guwahati, January 30, 2020:

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again sent out an open invitation to the militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom- Independent (ULFA-I) to join the peace process and lay down their weapons and return to the mainstream.

However, Himanta Biswa Sarma added that the government is examining the statements by ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah mentioning that there was positivity in Baruah’s statements.

The comment of the finance minister came a day after ULFA-I Commander-in-Chief, Paresh Baruah indicated an interest in coming to the negotiating table, given the core issue of sovereignty remains the prime agenda for the talks.

Sarma also said that the Government of India (GoI) will reach out to all the rebel groups in Manipur as well as the ULFA-I. GoI will reciprocate to the gesture made by armed rebel groups in Manipur and ULFA-I, he added.
