GUWAHATI: Akhil Gogoi, independent MLA from Sibsagar constituency on Friday has said that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has brought The Cattle Protection Bill 2021, to be in the good books of RSS and Prime Minister Narendra Modi so that his position as the Chief Minister becomes secured.

The controversial bill was tabled in the ongoing Assam Assembly on Friday.

Gogoi, one of the sternest critics of Sarma has also threatened to initiate massive protest against the cattle bill which seeks to ban the slaughter of cows within a 5km radius of any religious places of the Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the ongoing Assembly session, the Raijor Dal leader said, “The reason why I have not given any proposal of amendment to the bill is that, I will protest the bill in its totality.”

About 75 amendments have been proposed in the controversial cattle bill.

Akhil Gogoi has said that the BJP led government can pass the bill as they have the required number of MLAs, but Gogoi will protest alone if necessary and walk out of the Assembly.

“I am an Independent MLA. I can’t tell about the others, but I will definitely protest against the bill. For the past few days, I have been making my stand very clear in this.”

He also said that by bringing the cow protection bill, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biwa Sarma will become the villain in the history of Assam.

“Whenever history would ask who was the most communal politician of Sarma’s name would come first.”
