JORHAT: With electioneering in Assam nearing a crescendo, Assam's Finance, Education, and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today laid the foundation stone of the 2nd flyover in Upper Assam's Jorhat town, in a move that is bound to garner more goodwill for the party that had stoked anger in those parts after passing the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Blowing the bugle of development ahead of polls, Biswa Sarma said that the first flyover in No-Ali had resolved a long-pending problem in the town.

"Today, we are beginning work on the second flyover in Garh-Ali. Very shortly, you will witness another flyover in Cinnamara. We had sanctioned CIDF, out of which work has already begun on projects worth Rs. 80 crore," said Sarma, adding that the completion of these projects will enhance the connectivity in one of Upper Assam's largest towns.

Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced that the construction work will be completed within 2 years. "We have learned how to construct bridges, so the work will be completed very soon," the Minister said, adding that the work on the first flyover in Na-Ali shall also be expedited, now that the New Year has begun.

It needs mention here that Assam's Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of the flyover at Na-Ali in Jorhat town under North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NEIDS) at Jorhat in September 30, 2019. The flyover, to be constructed with a financial outlay of Rs. 112 crore, is expected to boost connectivity in the Upper Assam region.
